Calling all poets, spoken word artists, and musicians!
Join us for our monthly Poetry/Spoken Word/Music Open Mic — this month hosted by BAC artist-in-residence Sofía Campoamor.
HOW IT WORKS
Performer sign-up occurs between 7-7:30PM. Performers will be unable to sign-up before 7PM or after 7:30PM.
We accept up to 15 performers per Open Mic, up to 5 minutes each on the mic.
Mics, amp, and sound mixers are available. A keyboard is available with advance notice; please call the store (914-847-0773) or email amy@hvbooksforhumanity.com before 4 PM on the day of the Open Mic with a keyboard request).
OUR COMMUNITY AGREEMENTS
To help nurture a space of respect, validation, and welcoming:
1. We're here to share space, build community, and support each other.
2. Performers: respect the 5-minute time limit and be mindful of your timekeeper.
3. If you like something, make some noise! Snap your fingers, stomp your feet, clap, whatever feels right to you.
4. We encourage you to get to know your seat neighbors. Connect and build community.
Audience tickets $10-$20 per audience member at the door. (Performers do not pay an entry fee.)
Door proceeds are shared between emcee, performers, and Bethany Arts Community.

About Sofía
Born in Washington, DC, Sofía Campoamor first started writing songs to make school projects more fun. This lighthearted approach to academics led her to study music at Yale University, where she composed everything from a cappella arrangements to podcast theme songs, and performed around the world as the first woman member of the Whiffenpoofs. Campoamor now writes, records, and performs original indie folk in Brooklyn, and sings as a cantor and section leader with the Oratory Choir of St. Boniface. She is a community music facilitator at Gaia Music Collective, hosting collaborative open mics, songwriting circles, and one-day choirs.
Her debut album "if you knew, i couldn't tell" blends dreamy acoustic soundscapes with biting vulnerability in tales of love, longing, and friendship; her second project, “with all the lights on,” delves into an exploration of the body through themes of mortality, chronic illness, queerness, and intimacy.
Sofía is a Fall 2025 Artist-in-Residence at Bethany Arts Community.
